This procurement relates to establishing a diverse panel of speakers for the Safety Speaker Program.
Project goals
This procurement relates to establishing a diverse panel of speakers for icare’s Safety Speaker Program. This is the replace the previous speakers program, run in partnership with Paralympics Australia, which provided icare business customers with access to Paralympians who have been affected by a workplace injury.
From March 2026, the Paralympics Speakers Program will be replaced by the Program, run in partnership between icare with SafeWork NSW (the Partnership). icare will manage majority of operational responsibilities, in close collaboration with Safework NSW, and will align with SafeWork on priority industries and safety themes based on injury data, industry insights, and strategic goals.
This collaboration builds on icare’s long-standing Paralympic Speakers Program and SafeWork NSW’s Family and Injured Workers Support and Advisory Group (FIWSAG). It brings together the unique strengths and shared purpose of both agencies to help prevent injuries, support recovery, and create safer, healthier workplaces across NSW.
Scope
The speakers selected for the Program will be expected to speak publicly about their experience with workplace or road injury or death to raise awareness of workplace health and safety, inspire behaviour change, encourage safer practices in workplaces and/or support return to work.
Objectives
The objective of this RFP is to establish a diverse panel of speakers (i.e. people with serious injury and/or disability, family or friends of those who have experienced injury or death from a workplace injury, mental health experts, icare Lifetime Care participants), in alignment with agency and scheme objectives. icare’s Safety Speakers
Program (the Program) is a unique way to raise the awareness and importance of workplace health and safety with employees.
The Program connects people with lived experience of workplace accident and road injury or death to the NSW community, educating and empowering employers and employees to prevent workplace injury, champion workplace health and safety and facilitate return to work.
The Program aims to help workers and businesses form a more positive or improved perception of both agencies - making them more likely to trust icare and SafeWork’s support, which in turn leads to better recovery and return to work outcomes, reduced workplace related accidents and positive customer experiences
Respondents must:
• Be willing to share their story openly to support education, prevention and return-to-work outcomes.
• Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and have the ability to translate their experiences into meaningful lessons for workplaces, schools, government agencies, industry groups and other audiences.
• Be psychologically safe to engage in the program, be open to accessing support services if required, and present their story in a way that is safe for themselves and respectful to audiences.
• Be willing to travel across NSW for engagements and be available for at least seven speaking engagements per year.
• Attend program training and induction, participate in one training day per year, and be open to select media or promotional activities related to the program. If shortlisted, Respondents will progress to the interview stage to further demonstrate their capacity and capability to meet the requirements.
