Aboriginal Youth Throughcare Program – FASD - Expression of Interest

Project goals

The purpose of this project is to engage an ACCHO/ACCO to design and deliver a new Aboriginal Youth Throughcare services focused on supporting Aboriginal young people in contact with the criminal justice system in NSW that may have Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder (FASD).

Scope

Youth Justice NSW and Aboriginal Legal Service are seeking expressions of interest from Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations to deliver a new Aboriginal Youth Throughcare assessment, diagnosis and support service for Aboriginal young people in contact with the criminal justice system in NSW that may have Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

Youth Justice NSW is seeking EOIs from ACCO/ACCHOs that have capability and interest in designing and delivering this service, including capability to ensure young people and families have access to specialist clinical and health services whilst maintaining a criminal justice focus.

The service will be designed by an ACCHO/ACCO who will establish a multidisciplinary team that provides young people with culturally appropriate assessment, diagnosis and long-term support, including support to access the NDIS.

Delivery arrangements will be determined following the EOI process, but may have statewide outreach focus, or may focus on high‑need regions in NSW, either through direct outreach or in partnership or consortia with other ACCHOs or mainstream providers.

The project is a Closing the Gap project, led through a partnership between Youth Justice NSW and Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT) Limited, on behalf of NSW CAPO. It will contribute to the achievement of Target 11: to reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal young people in the criminal justice system.
