Tender Description

⁠⁠⁠Tenderers are invited for the Ferry 1 Overhaul - Berowra Crossing - Overhauling of Ferry 1.

Scope:

Vessel Underside (Below Waterline)

This section includes bottom plates, side plates and swim end plates

(a) Remove all 10 Zinc anode blocks and replace them with new anodes if required. Renew or replace any damaged holding down bolts. Ensure continuity between hull and anode when replaced. TfNSW to supply anodes

(b) Pressure wash underwater area to remove barnacles and any contaminants.

(c) Allow 100% of existing vessel area, (less new plate replacement refer 2.1 - 135m2) for full “back to steel” grit blasting. Prepare surfaces and paint areas.

(d) Conduct thickness testing for vessel’s 10-year renewal and provide report.

Refer to AMSA notification DCV-ITS-021 (draft) “Instruction to Surveyors” Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement of Metallic Hulls, for requirements and process.

Swim End Plate Replacement

(a) Cut and remove existing swim end plates (both ends) and replace with 20mm thick plate to future proof vessel hull integrity and longevity. Approx. replacement area is 6300mm x 10690mm (complete width of hull). Plate is to incorporate approx. 500mm of bottom plate finishing towards transom.

(b) Each void replacement plate area has (refer pic 2.1.1):

• 2x transverse frames

• 7x floor angle stiffeners

• 7x centre line bulkhead to bottom plate gussets

• 7x side plate to bottom plate gussets

(c) Prepare and paint swim end internal voids where new plate has been installed and where damage to existing paint by plate replacement hot works as per paint specifications – Internal Hull - New Shell Plate

(d) Note: preparing and painting of external swim end new plate replacement is part of the scope for below water line paint specification – Underwater Hull - New Shell Plate

Vessel Topside (Above Waterline)

This section includes the side plating, transoms, underside of all platforms and attached brackets

(a) Pressure wash all areas, remove grease and contaminants.

(b) Allow 100% of area for full “back to steel” grit blasting. Prepare surfaces and paint areas.

Vessel Major fixtures

This section includes the main carriageway, curbs, raised deck tops, work platforms, walkway and wing decks

(a) Pressure washes all areas, remove grease and contaminants.

(b) Allow 70% of area for full grit blasting (carriageway, curbs & wing decks etc).

Prepare surfaces and paint areas. Refer to provisional item 10.1 for remainder of whip blast area.

(c) Before applying last coat of paint on carriage/walkways and work access areas, apply non-skid aggregate evenly onto wet paint to form a non-skid surface (refer note 1 & 2).

Note 1: Course non-skid aggregate (copper slag) to be applied to main carriage way

Note 2: Fine non-skid aggregate (aluminium oxide) to be applied to raised deck, pedestrian walkways and work areas of wing decks

(d) Paint lane lines and numbers 3-1-2 (2 against wheelhouse) at both ends of the carriageway deck in yellow colour.

(e) Create non-trip access from operator walkway to carriageway by cutting and removing 900mm sections of curb at either end of vessel near sampson posts (starting approx. 550mm inboard from transom end of curb). Weld end plate covers to open ends to seal existing cavity style curb. Provide 75 mm dia. x approx. 875 mm high, yellow painted bollards at both sides of curb access way to accomplish a total height including curb of 1100mm. Exact location of curb cutout is to be determined by TfNSW representative. (refer pic 4.0.1) Prepare and paint.

Asphalt Removal

(a) Remove asphalt from carriageway. Approx. area of asphalt to be removed and disposed of is 25650mm x 6700mm x 75mm (172m2)

(b) Remove the welded 75mm flat bar asphalt edge support (next to curb) and gussets (refer pic 4.1.1)

(c) Trim transom plate height to blend in with new carriageway not impacting on angle chine welds from deck plate to transom. Height can be finalised with TfNSW representative to create a smooth transition to main flap

(d) Inspect and report condition of deck (carriageway) plate for corrosion and pitting

(e) Prepare (full blast) and paint deck plate as per paint specification – Main Carriageway Deck - Removal of Asphalt

(f) Check internal voids for burnt/damaged paint due to hot works from asphalt removal scope. Prepare and paint areas where required

(g) Transom to main flap hinge lugs will require to be lowered to align main flap with new carriageway height. Refer to 8.0 – Main & Toe Flaps for work scope

Vessel Ancillary Fixtures

This section includes the operator cabin, life jacket compartments/passenger cabins, raised deck sides, raised deck storage and deck pump boxes

(a) Pressure wash all areas, remove grease and contaminants.

(b) Check condition of operator’s cabin; windows, entry doors, cabinetry, upholstery and floor boards. Report condition. Clean/remove any mould from roof lining.

(c) Remove signs affixed to cabins or raised deck sides for painting and reinstall after painting. Renew faded or damaged signs with new items supplied by TfNSW

(d) Allow 5% of area for full grit blasting. Prepare surfaces and paint areas

(e) Sand all edges of existing paintwork to achieve a sound and paintable finish

(f) Paint all external surfaces of operator & passenger cabins, raised deck sides and life jacket compartments (excluding life jacket doors – leave in aluminum finish)

(g) Check “yellow anti-slip” plates on stairs to operator’s cabin. Report condition. TfNSW to supply anti-slip plates if required (10 x 500mm)

Vessel Operational Fixtures

This section includes items listed in table 6.1, main gates/locks, end guide and cable brake units, handrails and access gates

(a) Pressure wash all areas, remove grease and contaminants.

(b) Allow 5% of area for spot blasting any rusted and damaged areas. Prepare surfaces and paint area (non-galvanised items)

(c) Dismantle 4 Screw bars connected to pennant wires, remove Denso tapes, clean rust and grease the screw section. Cover the screw section with Denso tapes after assembly. The approx. size of each screw bar is 1100 x 50 mm.

Note: measure length of all 4 screw bars eye to eye before dismantling for reassembly length

(d) Remove anchors from the holders and check for free movement. Report condition. Check 2x chain links on each anchor. TfNSW to supply chain links if required.

(e) Chain Locker - Remove anchor chain from both lockers, check condition of chain and locker tables. Take photos and report condition

(f) Replace 4x off samson post main flap cylinder lugs

Tenderers are invited for the Ferry 1 Overhaul - Berowra Crossing - Overhauling of Ferry 1. Works are to be preformed in accordance with project designs, reports and environmental requirements.

This contract is for the Ferry 1 Overhaul and Out of Water inspection. The works include Vehicular ferry overhaul of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components including full painting of vessel and loading ramps
