Tender Description

Griffith City Council is seeking tender submissions from suitably qualified and experienced suppliers for the external and internal recoating & engineering works for Council's 14ML reservoir.

Scope:

The mild steel reservoir is estimated to have been constructed in 1966. It is a steel plated wall and concrete floor of varying section thicknesses. The upper two top strakes are stepped inwards by approximately 125mm each strake for a total reduction in diameter from approximately 38.405 meters to approximately 37.897 meters.

Circumferential strakes joints are butt welded joint construction with butt welded vertical joints.

Approximately in 1985, the reservoir was roofed. The roof structure has aluminium roof sheeting on hot dipped galvanised roof members supported on 200mm SHS columns.

Note accompanying structural construction drawings available on this reservoir. Dimensions supplied are approximates only and may not be accurate.

Tenders are to undertake their own dimensional checks to confirm measurements for their tender submissions.

Internal:

The existing coating applied in 1966 was a hot zinc sprayed.

The current coating appears to be an epoxy system which may have been directly applied over the existing hot zinc spray when the reservoir was roofed in 1985.

The SHS roof support columns are hot dipped galvanised and epoxy paint overcoated.

External:

The existing coating is the original applied in 1966.

Based on PWD records the following was the stated coating system:

Primer: Red Lead

Intermediate: alkyd Micaceous Iron Oxide (MIO).

Finish Coat: Alkyd (MIO).

The bottom strake has been overcoated in past years due to graffiti and possibly indicative of the increased total DFT. Site tests undertaken by J.K. Quality Control (JKQC) in 2013 of the coating system confirmed the lead primer system.
