EOI for Street Artists – New Urban Art Laneway in Burwood
Tender ID: 606273
Tender Details
Tender Description
Burwood Council is seeking nine (9) artists to create a series of temporary public artworks within Clarendon Place, in the heart of Burwood Chinatown, as part of the Burwood Urban Street Art Wall Program.
As Sydney’s Cultural Playground, Burwood is fast emerging as a leading destination for arts and culture. Council has developed the Burwood Urban Street Art Wall Program to contribute to this vision by bringing bold, engaging and diverse artistic expressions into the public realm, further enhancing the laneway at Clarendon Place as a vibrant, accessible and welcoming space for the community.
The Burwood Urban Street Art Wall Program is designed to give emerging artists and artist collectives the opportunity to test their skills and gain experience in the production of public mural artworks, set within a prominent and iconic location in the Burwood Town Centre, Clarendon Place, situated in the heart of Burwood Chinatown.
LOCATION
The Urban Street Art Wall is situated directly opposite Burwood Chinatown, in Clarendon Place. The existing vibe at this location is heavily influenced by Chinese and Asian culture, as the home of hawker-style Asian markets, neon lighting and lanterns, as well as a gateway mural and lighting installation, The Last Lion by Sophia Odling and Christina Huynh.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Council is inviting artists (or artist collectives) to paint a series of murals on pre-determined areas along the length of the Urban Street Art Wall, as part of an Art Battle activation over a two-day period in March 2026.
Selected artists will be provided with $500 to cover the cost of the purchase of materials, such as paint and brushes, to help complete the mural.
Members of the public will be invited to watch the artists painting their murals.
After all nine (9) portions of the wall are painted, the public will be invited to vote for their favourite mural, to determine an overall program winner. Winning artists may receive recognition and future collaboration opportunities with Council.
SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION
To make participation as seamless as possible, interested artists only need to submit a simple concept description and a portfolio link, letting your work speak for itself.
