Kirwan Road - Blue Gum Plantation, Site Rehabilitation

The Shire of Esperance seeks submissions from suitably qualified and experienced Contractor to rehabilitate a harvested Blue Gum Plantation located at Lot 12 Kirwan Road Merivale.

Background Information

The Principal owns a 330 Ha block of land at Lot 12 Kirwan Road Merivale that previously had a Blue Gum plantation on it. In 2022 these Blue Gums were harvested, leaving the stumps and debris, the stumps have since coppiced.

The top 1/3rd of the block has a gravel resource underneath the soil, with the Principal using the gravel for construction works this is expected to last 5-10 years. This section has already had the trees removed and will be rehabilitated as part of the gravel extraction process.

The bottom 2/3rds of the block has no viable gravel resources with the Blue Gums Stumps being left to coppice since being harvested. The Principal through, this tender, intents to rehabilitate this portion, so that it can be returned to arable farmland. 

Scope of Work

The high-level scope of works is provided in the points below. It is up to the contractor to define the specific methodology as part of their submission.

For the approximate 190ha of Lot 12 Kirwan Road, as per Map in Appendix 3:

1. Push/Pull & Extract all stumps for chipping or burning.

2. Burn or chip/mulch of all stumps

3. Surface preparation and regrading: Tolerances: ±50 mm over 10 m straightedge.
