Tender Description

Energy Queensland Limited (EQL) will be seeking proposals for Distribution Switchgear (Underground) via SAP Ariba in mid-February.

Background and Scope:

Energy Queensland has an ongoing requirement for Secondary Distribution Switchgear (11 kV, 22 kV and 33 kV Ring Main Units). These assets are deployed across the Ergon and Energex distribution networks in both indoor and outdoor environments, supporting simple standalone switch/fuse applications as well as more complex installations such as meshed network configurations, customer connections with embedded generation, and zone substation interfaces.

The existing fleet is predominantly insulated with SF6, a gas with a high environmental impact. For this sourcing event, Energy Queensland is seeking proposals for both SF6 insulated equipment and proven alternative insulating mediums. This approach supports a long-term transition away from SF6 to reduce environmental impacts and proactively prepare for potential future Australian regulatory changes aligned with international developments (e.g., the EU F Gas Regulation 2024/573).

An open RFT is planned for release in mid-February 2026 via SAP Ariba, with an eight-week response period. Evaluation against predefined criteria and weightings will be completed by September 2026, followed by negotiation, recommendation, and contract award by December 2026. The new contract/s will commence 1 March 2027.

Tenderers who wish to submit a response need to be registered as a Supplier on SAP Ariba.
