Tender Description

AgriFutures Australia is committed to supporting a sustainable, growing and prosperous ginger industry supplying product of the highest quality, that is strongly sought after by discerning consumers in Australia and around the world. To achieve this, AgriFutures Australia actively invests in research and development projects that support the achievement of the AgriFutures Ginger Program goal and align with the ginger industry’s research and development priorities.

As a perennial crop, ginger has a long production cycle, and adept management of available chemicals is crucial in demonstrating environmental stewardship and managing the rise of resistance in pest and diseases. There is a suite of chemicals registered for minor use in culinary ginger, where are majority are held on behalf of the Australian Ginger Industry Association. As these are minor use permits, these registrations have limited terms and need to be renewed or updated in various cycles.

With this request for quote there are a number or minor use permits that will expire in the next four years. To support the ongoing access to the right tools to support a sustainable and environmentally conscious ginger industry, the AgriFutures Ginger Program is seeking tenders from interesting parties to maintain the current minor use permits and conduct regular investigations and residue testing to support the registration of new options for the Australian market. Note there is an existing project to investigate new options, and propose updates to current registrations for managing Pythium soft rot.

The AgriFutures Ginger Program is seeking tenders from interested parties to maintain the current minor use permits and conduct regular investigations and residue testing (where appropriate) to support the registration of new options for the Australian market.

This investment should achieve the following objectives:

  • Ongoing access to the suite of minor use chemical control options for the ginger industry.
  • New options for the chemical control of pest and diseases in culinary ginger.
  • Acute grower awareness of control options available to them and best management practice to manage pest and disease resistance.
