Student Assistance Schemes for Geographically Isolated Students 2026

⁠⁠⁠Financial assistance may be available to help geographically isolated families (unless indicated otherwise) and residents of the NT, whose child or children live away from home to attend school or university or access distance education. Financial assistance may also be available for daily costs of transporting your child to and from school if you travel more than 5km and live in a remote locality.

Prior to beginning your application, please review the eligibility:

Key criteria:

• Applications must be submitted through GrantsNT
• The applicant and the student must be residents of the NT, (unless specified otherwise)
• Students who attend an interstate distance education school who are NT residents or reside interstate who meet the enrolment criteria and their closest business centre is Alice Springs or Katherine, may submit an application for consideration through GrantsNT
• Students must be undertaking full-time study in a primary or secondary school.

After you apply

The Student Assistance team will be notified of your application and begin assessment of your eligibility, please allow up to 4 weeks.

If further information or documentation is required to complete the assessment, we will contact you.

Applications must be submitted annually by 30 June in the relevant academic year.

If you do not provide the requested information in your application or supporting documents within the specified time, the department may assess you as ineligible for that school year.
