Electrical Services & Powerlines

Scope of Work

• Supply and installation of new LV/HV electrical overhead distribution equipment.
• Maintenance of existing LV/HV electrical distribution equipment.
• Breakdown response for LV/HV overhead distribution equipment.
• Decommissioning of old electrical distribution equipment.
• Provision of installation/construction drawings and associated documentation.
• Testing and commissioning of powerlines, power cables, and associated equipment.

General electrical services, including:

• Provision of all labour, plant, equipment, and materials required for electrical works.
• Compliance with Rio Tinto standards, Australian Standards, and site-specific requirements.
• Emergency response and restoration of electrical services post-cyclone or other events.
• Risk assessments and adherence to HSEQ standards.
• Supply of as-built drawings and version-controlled documentation.

Infrastructure Coverage

Services apply to electrical distribution components including, but not limited to:

• Power poles and overhead lines, including communications over power lines.
• Overhead switching and protection equipment: switches, fuses, reclosers, interrupters, ABS.
• Cable connections between overhead installations and other overhead/ground-mounted installations.
• Transformers and LV boards: pole-top and pad-mounted transformers (100 kVA–15 MVA) and LV pole-mounted distribution boards.
• Earthing systems: earthing installations, earth stakes, and earth grids.
• High-voltage terminations and underground power cable installations.

Additional general electrical components such as:

• HV cable jointing and terminations.
• Installation and testing of protection systems and telemetry equipment.
• Electrical design and drafting services (as required).

Design & Engineering (as required)

• Protection coordination studies.
• Earthing and lightning protection design.
• Cable sizing and system modelling.
• Preparation of technical queries (TQs) and compliance with Rio Tinto approval processes.

This scope of work is a summary description of goods and/or services that may be required by Rio Tinto and may be subject to change in Rio Tinto’s absolute discretion.

It is recommended that Suppliers review the portal business details section to ensure all information, including contact email address, annual turnover and employee numbers, is current and accurate.

 As this is an Expression of Interest (EOI) only, the specifics of the package of work relating to breadth of scope, location and timing may be subject to change. If successful, the Supplier/s will be notified of any changes prior to award.
