Digital Health Enterprise Data Platform Expansion and Stabilisation

Background

• The Digital Health Group data teams have implemented the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) over the previous 18 months. The EDP is built on Microsoft Fabric, leveraging a pattern driven architecture and management to provide standards and guardrails to end users.
• Currently the EDP provides services to a centralised team of data engineers to enable development of ELT data pipelines following a standard medallion architecture. These pipelines serve datasets to end users via a copy to an on-premises database.
• The EDP does NOT currently provide reporting, analysis, or engineering capabilities directly to business users. As above, all data consumption is via an on-premises database.

Outcomes

• Strengthen and enhance the existing EDP foundations to improve operational maturity and alignment with best practice standards.
• Enable end users to access the EDP directly for their data needs
• Provide blueprint-based workloads for common scenarios
• A technology framework which enables smooth data mesh collaboration by different business areas in a controlled manner
• Two business areas onboarded to the EDP
• Enable Digital Canberra to expand its data services, support emerging business needs, and accommodate a broader range of workload patterns across government
