NGN Demonstrating diverse weed management tactics for annual ryegrass control in Central East NSW mixed farming systems
Tender ID: 602515
Tender Details
Tender Description
Annual ryegrass is an ongoing challenge for growers in Central NSW, where issues such as herbicide resistance, variable dormancy and high seed production lead to difficulty in keeping on top of weed control. Growers operating mixed farming systems discussed the need for demonstration of a suite of diverse weed control options targeted at annual ryegrass, at an NGN forum in Coolah. With increasing rates of herbicide resistance and the declining reliability of herbicides to control ryegrass, alternative options are required. As mixed farming systems, the inclusion of livestock affords an additional opportunity for weed control. Of particular interest to growers attending the NGN forum was brown manure crops, crop rotation, grazing, and extension of learnings around harvest weed seed control from the Western region. This investment will demonstrate the efficacy of diverse weed control tactics alongside traditional chemical control.
