Construction of Doomadgee Water Treatment Plant Upgrade
Tender ID: 602056
Tender Details
Tender Description
The objective of this project is to address the significant challenges Doomadgee is facing with its water infrastructure and Water Treatment Plant (WTP).
The existing WTP suffers from insufficient treatment capacity, limited life expectancy, and insufficient treatment barriers to meet health-based targets. The communities water supply is rated as a level 4 catchment for health-based targets and consequently the WTP needs additional treatment in place to address high level microbial, bacteria, and virus risks.
Water concerns are compounded by an increasing population impacting demand, necessity around water quality standards, and the need for plant reliability. The community is regularly subject to Boil Water Advisories (BWA), with four issued since 2019, highlighting the community’s vulnerability to water security risks and resulting in widespread distrust of the water supply and negatively impacting community well-being.
This project will ensure a fit for purpose long term solution for water infrastructure to meet current and future water quality standards and water demand for the community. The water infrastructure is critical in supplying safe and reliable potable water across the community of Doomadgee. The construction of a new WTP, compliant with health-based targets is vital for the Doomadgee community.
The Scope of works is detailed in the provided DLGWV2025-0150 Part 2 Technical Specification and supporting drawings and documentation listed in DLGWV2025-0150 Invitation to Offer Part 1.
A new reservoir is being constructed under a separate contract to increase the supply of treated water to the community. Completion of this contract is expected by April 2026. The WTP upgrade contract may overlap with the reservoir construction, so appropriate considerations should be made for two contractors operating on the same site.
