Scope of Work
To support construction works at Rio Tinto’s Yarwun Residue Management Area (RMA) at Gladstone, QLD, material is prepared in the borrows typically by a combination of dozer ripping and stacking to blend / moisture condition. When unrippable material is encountered no further extraction can occur. To enable borrowing the remaining material to the design elevations will require drill and blast operations.

The work under the contract will commence at Borrow 10 mid 2026 and dependent on success will dictate the timing for subsequent works at other borrows. The approach is anticipated to be in discrete campaigns and therefore, will not have a permanent on-site presence.
General Scope
The Contractor is responsible for the provision of all personnel, equipment and components required to complete the Works efficiently and safely. The Contractor shall perform all work within the schedule approved by Rio Tinto Yarwun. Interfaces with other concurrent projects onsite shall be scheduled and agreed with appropriate traffic management put in place by Rio Tinto Yarwun for the duration of the Works.
The Works include, but are not limited to:
a) Provide drilling, blasting and drill maintenance services for the duration of the Contract
b) Participation in the development of an RTY Explosives management plan
c) Coordination with Rio Tinto Yarwun Construction team on all project activities
d) Mobilization of contractor personnel, plant, equipment, offices, cribs, ablutions, establishment of contractor laydown and work areas to complete the works,
e) Lodgment of all Queensland government permitting including but not limited to blasting, noise and vibrations records to mines department for contractor’s drilling and blasting activities at Rio Tinto Yarwun site,
f) Prepare and issue Borrow pattern and drill shot plans for Rio Tinto Yarwun approval,
g) Procure and bring to site all explosives, initiating explosives and associated material in approved transport equipment
h) Drill tie and fire. It is anticipated that contractor’s nominated drillers and sub-contractors are licenced shot-firers and Rio Tinto Yarwun approved explosive suppliers. Contractor to include an organization chart in their proposal
i) Submit report for every blast including vibration / sound monitors and video
j) All Contractor personnel proposed to undertake work at Rio Tinto Yarwun site must have full explosive security clearance and accredited qualifications / certification, and
k) The de-mobilisation and removal from Site of all construction plant, equipment, buildings, facilities, temporary Works, waste hydrocarbons and excess materials.
Under no circumstances are explosives to be stored at the Yarwun RMA.
