Overview

Origin is a leading Australian energy company and the nation's largest energy retailer, with 4.7 million customer accounts. As a major power generator, Origin's portfolio of assets and development projects spans traditional fuels, renewables and storage alongside interests in natural gas production and LNG export. Origin is a major employer with a footprint in many communities across the country.

The acquisition of the Yanco Delta Wind Farm in May 2024 is a major step forward in Origin's journey to transition its generation portfolio to cleaner energy.

Yanco Delta Wind Farm

Located approximately 10km north-west of Jerilderie in the NSW Riverina, the Yanco Delta Wind Farm sits within the designated South West Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) on Wiradjuri Country.

Yanco Delta is a 1.5GW wind farm consisting of up to 208 wind turbines connecting to the Dinawan Substation. The project development area spans approximately 33,000 hectares between Jerilderie and Coleambally, crossing both the Murrumbidgee and Edward River Council areas, and is strategically positioned near key transmission infrastructure.

Origin is responsible for all development activities, including but not limited to obtaining all project approvals, appointment of prime contractors, landowner and stakeholder engagement.

Access rights

Yanco Delta was one of four projects granted access rights by the NSW government in April 2025. The granting of access rights was a major milestone for the Yanco Delta project and provides connection rights to the transmission network and electricity grid. Yanco Delta has a strong commitment to creating opportunities in the local community and the wider Riverina-Murray region.

Key commitments are reflected in the access rights / Project Development Agreement, including purchasing locally produced materials, hiring learning workers and employing from underrepresented groups.

Project scope

Construction of Yanco Delta is expected to commence in 2027 and will take approximately four years. Commissioning and testing of the facility will be undertaken sequentially and commence as soon as it is practicable to do so.

Contracting model

Origin is well progressed in selecting its prime contractors for both the Turbine Supply and Installation (TSI) and the Balance or Plant (BOP) scopes or work. Our head contractors will be responsible for awarding and managing the subcontract packages.

Typical TSI Subcontract Packages:

* Wind turbine manufacture

* Ocean freight

* Domestic (Australian) road transportation including access to port storage

* Cranage

* Technical labour hire

Origin will also engage the TSI contractor under a 35-year operations and maintenance agreement, which will commence upon Practical Completion of the wind farm.

Typical BOP Subcontract Packages:

* Public road upgrades

* Internal access tracks

* Temporary construction compounds, concrete batching plants

* Accommodation camp (supply)

* Accommodation camp (operations)

* Permanent facilities (operations and maintenance building)

* Electrical substations, switchyards, overhead transmission line and underground cabling

* Earthmoving equipment hire

* Steel supply

* Waste removal

* Dust suppression

* Security services

* Surveying

* Technical labour hire.

Workforce opportunities

At peak construction, the project is expected to provide up to 750 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) employment opportunities with around 30 ongoing roles required to operate the wind farm once commissioned.

Yanco Delta is committed to ensuring local community and First Nations groups benefit from meaningful employment, training, and supply chain opportunities. We will work closely with our BOP and TSI contractors to deliver the project's Industry and Aboriginal Participation Plan (IAPP) and access rights / merit criteria obligations, thus maximising local content through partnerships with local businesses, training providers, and community organisations.

As the project moves through the planning and approvals phase, Yanco Delta welcomes Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from local suppliers and contractors. These leads will be shared with our prime contractors.
