Tender Description
Central Coast Council invites Tasmania Aboriginal artists living in, or with a strong connection to, Tasmania’s Central Coast to submit an Expression of Interest to create an artwork for Council’s new Aboriginal Engagement and Action Plan.
This new plan will build on the Reconciliation Action Plan – Reflect 2021–2023, continuing to strengthen relationships with the local Aboriginal community.
The selected artwork will represent the local Aboriginal community’s stories, culture and connection to this country and will feature across all document formats.
Key Details:
- Medium: Two-dimensional artwork that can be used in part or in whole.
- *Works created using AI or other generative technologies will not be accepted.
- *Dot painting is not widely recognised as a traditional Tasmanian Aboriginal art form, and artists are encouraged to draw on materials, symbols, and practices that reflect the stories and traditions specific to Tasmania’s Aboriginal community.
- Use: Artwork will be reproduced for all Council’s Aboriginal Engagement and Action Plan materials and promotion and must be versionable for use across multiple formats.
- Selection: Artwork will be selected by Hive’s Aboriginal Working Group made up of local Aboriginal representatives who consult on all arts and cultural content relating to Aboriginal culture.
- No further communication or correspondence will be entered into after selection.
- Country encapsulates language, land, sky, water, fire, spirit, animals.

Artist Statement / Bio
Up to 250 words about your practice and artistic approach
Concept Proposal
Up to 300 words describing the proposed artwork, its themes, medium, and approximate size.
Work Samples
3-5 images of previous work (JPEG or PDF) with titles, medium, year and dimensions.
Preliminary Visual (Optional)
A sketch or mock-up of your concept if available.
Timeline and Availability
Confirmation you can create the work within the agreed timeframe if selected.
Budget/Fee Indication
Simple estimate or acknowledgement of Council’s commissioning process.
Permissions
Statement confirming the work is original and that Council may reproduce the artwork for CCAEAP materials with appropriate credit, in part or in whole.
Assessment Criteria:
- Tasmanian Aboriginal person with demonstrated connection to the Central Coast
- Quality
- Originality
- Response and relevance to the brief and suitability to the brief
- Appropriateness for mixed use
