Old Broome Road Upgrade

The Shire of Broome (the Shire) requires a suitably qualified Contractor to complete the construction of the proposed upgrades and pavement renewal to Old Broome Rd from Sandpiper Ave to Short St.

These works will be awarded on a Lump Sum basis with payments made based on actual progress during the project. The work is preferred to commence early 2026.

Old Broome Road is one of two roads in Broome connecting the northern residential areas to the schools, services, and shops in the south of Broome making it a critical arterial road. Currently the road arrangement prioritises private vehicles with poor arrangements for pedestrians and cyclists. Furthermore, the traffic flows at the existing Sandpiper Avenue roundabout are poorly balanced at peak times resulting in traffic backing up along Old Broome Road.

This project will renew the aged wearing course and pavement as required between Sandpiper Avenue and Short St. During this process the cross section of the road will be altered and widened to allow for a new shared path to be built on the western side. Buffer zones and physical deterrents will improve separation between motor vehicles and pedestrians and cyclists improving safety for all road users. The existing Sandpiper Ave roundabout shall also be modified to include an additional southbound lane allowing a more balanced traffic flow at peak times.
