Hunter Water Data Centre and Perimeter Firewall Replacement

The key purpose of this project is to replace the ageing Perimeter and Data Centre physical firewall appliances with modern, vendor supported next generation firewall (NGFW) appliances. By procuring current hardware and software with active vendor support for security patches, feature updates and hardware replacement, the project will:

• Reduce information security and service continuity risks associated with unsupported hardware and software;
• Increase network capacity, throughput and inspection capability to meet future traffic and security requirements;
• Improve east west and north south traffic control with modern firewall features (intrusion prevention, TLS inspection, application awareness, micro segmentation);
• Enable centralised device management, consistent policy enforcement and improved monitoring and logging.

Align with the Corporate Strategy, ensuring systems are secure while enabling change, and improving usability for Digital IT teams.

By replacing the current perimeter and data centre firewall appliances with supported NGFW platforms, Hunter Water will mitigate regulatory, security and operational risks and enhance the resilience and manageability of its network security posture.
