Powerhouse Specialised Rigging Contractor Panel

Project goals

Powerhouse is establishing a panel of Specialised Rigging Contractors to undertake activities supporting the rigging of the Powerhouse collection for display in Powerhouse Parramatta exhibitions.

Powerhouse adopts an object-first approach for all objects in its care—whether part of the 500,000-strong collection or on temporary loan. This approach informs all related activities, including rigging, which is managed by specialist staff with expertise in both rigging and object handling, and is best practice for cultural institutions globally.

The procurement process comprises of an open Expression Of Interest (EOI) to identify and shortlist suitable or capable suppliers with the ability to provide specialised rigging services in the context of collection rigging for display.

Scope

Powerhouse is seeking to augment its exhibition project team with a specialist rigging team to assist with the installation of complex collection objects in exhibition display spaces at Powerhouse Parramatta. This includes but is not limited to, aircraft, spacecraft and contemporary artworks.

The scope of work for the rigging specialist includes:

•  Site assessment
•  Risk assessment
•  Coordination
•  Equipment
•  Object handling
•  Lifting and rigging
•  Documentation.
