Tender Description

Ipswich City Council invites tenders from suitably qualified contractors for the construction of a new Back of House Facility and the reconstruction of a section of timber boardwalk at the Ipswich Nature Centre, located in Queens Park, Ipswich.

Project Overview

This project involves two separable portions:

SP1 - Back of House Facility – upgrade and reconstruction of outdated staff, quarantine, and biosecurity facilities.

SP2 - Timber Boardwalk – replacement of a section of the existing boardwalk that interconnects with the new facility.

  • The works are to be delivered in a way that ensures minimal disruption to the public, staff, and animals within the Nature Centre, which is a high-traffic, heritage-listed site.
  • Goods and Services Required
  • Project and contract management as Principal Contractor.
  • Construction of the Back of House Facility per approved designs and specifications.
  • Design and construction of the boardwalk section, including certification.
  • Preparation and implementation of management plans (Construction, Environmental, Traffic, Safety).
  • Coordination with Council’s Superintendent’s Representative (SR).
  • Post-construction services, including defect rectification and final certifications.
  • Expected Timing

SP1 – Back of House Facility:

Preferred construction window is 30 March 2026 to 18 December 2026 (negotiable with Council).

SP2 – Boardwalk Reconstruction:

Must occur between 20 April 2026 and 26 June 2026 to avoid school holidays and meet funding deadlines.

Location

Ipswich Nature Centre, Queens Park, Ipswich, QLD.

Site access via Burley Griffith Drive (rear of Ipswich Central State School).

Site Constraints

The site is a public facility and must remain operational.

Animal welfare is a top priority; works may be paused if animals show signs of distress.

Noise, vibration, and traffic must be carefully managed.

Only one side of the boardwalk may be closed at a time.

Contractors must allow for five days of potential work stoppages in their program and pricing.

Mandatory Site Inspections

Contractors must attend one of the following site inspections:

  • Monday 13 October 2025, 8am–10am
  • Monday 20 October 2025, 8am–10am
  • Monday 27 October 2025, 8am–10am
