The outcome sought by the procurement is the securing of the services of a suitably qualified and experienced Main Contractor to undertake the proposed Stage 2 Site Carpark Works at Whangarei Heads School. The existing carpark and Bus maneuvering area on Whangarei Heads School Road is a significant health & safety concern for the school, with no designated bus stop, insufficient turning area for the bus (requiring reverse maneuvering), and general PU/DO parking also involving reverse maneuvering.
The proposed works has been staged into two parts, with stage 1 comprising of staff and visitor parking – completed in the summer holidays of 2023/24. This project was in response to the existing parking area along Whangarei Heads School Road not being able to be used due to subsidence issues following Cyclone Gabrielle. The proposed Stage 2 project (this procurement) addresses the h/s issues related to the existing carpark area by improving the student pick up / drop off area and allowing for better maneuvering of vehicles and buses.
The Contract Works required are the redevelopment of the existing parking area along Whangarei Heads School Road including the following:
- Removal / demolition of existing paved and gravel roads and footpaths to suitable sub-base / basecourse.
- Removal of existing trees and existing shed to allow for construction of new paved road and PU/DO area.
- Construction of new paved footpaths, bus stop shelter and vehicle / bus turn around area, Earthworks will be required to form the new parking and turn around area, including installation of surface water drainage.
- Installation of new stormwater drainage.
- Minor landscaping including replacement fencing and gates, balustrades, retaining walls / rocked berms, new planted areas, and required signage.
- The works will need to be undertaken in phases to maintain access to the neighboring properties along Whangarei Heads School Road.
- The works will require traffic management to be in place from start to finish of the contract works.
- The works are generally within the WDC road reserve (Whangarei Heads School Road). The Contractor will need to obtain a CAR from WDC for the proposed works and comply to the requirements and conditions of WDC.
