Expression of Interest - Independent Member Audit, Risk And Improvement Committee (ARIC)

Expressions of Interest are sought from suitably qualified and experienced persons to join the Shire of Halls Creek Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) as an independent Committee Member for a two-year term. There are two independent member positions available.

The ARIC provides advice to Shire of Halls Creek Council (Council) to assist with fulfilling its oversight responsibilities in relation to:

•  systems of risk management and internal control.
•  performance reporting for external and internal audit.
•  financial management and reporting practices.
•  compliance with laws and regulations.

The appointment process will be in line with the adopted terms of reference (August 2025) and will consider the qualifications, skills and expertise required for the functions of the ARIC. Exposure to local government is not essential but will be highly regarded.

The ARIC comprises a maximum of five (5) members, two (2) of whom must be independent. The ARIC meets once a quarter, and each meeting runs for approximately two hours at Council Chambers.

Each member must attend in person for adoption of the annual audit report otherwise virtual access would be considered. Members must ensure they have the capacity to adequately consider the agenda papers prior to each meeting. Members will be eligible for reimbursement of reasonable expenses relating to their duties in line with legislative requirements.

The successful candidates will be recommended to the new Council in October/November for appointment to the ARIC. Unsuccessful candidates will be added to a pool for future consideration should independent member positions become available.
