Project goals
Feral deer numbers in the Dooralong valley area have been high over the last decade or so. The area contains Red Deer, Fallow Deer and a low-density population of Sambar Deer. The population poses a range of risks to public safety, agriculture and ecological values.
Under the Greater Sydney Regional Strategic Pest Animal Management Plan 2024 – 2028 deer are categorised under Containment. This means deer in the area should be managed to contain population spread, reduce risk to motorists and reducing impact the environment, agricultural and rural lands.
The proposed program will involve the safe removal of deer from consenting properties, under the guidance of GSLLS staff.
Scope
The supplier is to manage and undertake on-ground operations for the program.
This includes:
- Undertaking Risk Assessment and obtaining written consents at participating properties
- Providing notification and clear communication to GSLLS staff and participating and relevant stakeholders
- Undertaking on-ground deer control, in accordance with relevant legislation, Local Land Services Policy, and appropriate shoot plans
