Scope

Camden Council invites expression of interests from experienced and competent construction contractors for the Camden Animal Shelter and Community Nursery construction contract works. A detailed description of the requirements can be found in Council's EOI document.

Council has secured funding through the NSW Government West Invest Program to design and construct a new combined Camden Animal Shelter and Community Nursery to be located at 55 Topham Road, Smeaton Grange.

Animal Shelter

In 2016, Council resolved to operate ‘a no kill’ animal care facility where all attempts are made to re-home or rescue stray or unwanted cats and dogs considered suitable for rehoming.

The proposed facility will include:

• Reception
• Adoption rooms for Cats and Dogs
• Back of house shelters for Cats and Dogs
• Afterhours and Ranger support areas
• Assessment rooms
• Administration areas
• Exercise yards and storage areas
• Landscaping

Community Nursery

The Camden Community Nursery will be operated by Council’s Open Space and Sustainability staff. The community nursery will be used for seed storage, propagation and growth of local native species that will be used in landscaping and restoration projects delivered by Council and to supply local residents with native plants. The Nursery will also provide suitable facilities to hold plant stock purchased by Council from other nursery facilities for use in Council projects. The facility will not be open for public access.

The facilities will include:

• Greenhouse with climate control
• Shaded and unshaded growing areas
• Operations Shed
• Irrigation systems
• Storage bunds
