We are seeking expressions of interest (EOIs) from local First Nations organisations and training providers to deliver Cultural Awareness Training to our staff that is relevant to our region and respectful of local perspectives.

Training Overview

• Approximately 300 staff.
• 10 sessions in total (about 30 participants/round).
• Face-to-face, half-day sessions at the Coordination Centre in Atherton.
• Dates to be confirmed in consultation with provider and venue availability.
• Session recorded and parts used for onboarding of new staff.

Content

• Introducing Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples, languages and flags.
• Reconciliation Action Plans.
• Understanding and defining cultural capability and cultural safety principles.
• Impacts of racism.
• Alignment with Reconciliation Action Plan goals.
• Identify organisational workforce knowledge and practice gaps.
• Understanding how social structures have shaped perceptions and inequity.
• Why Welcome to Country is important.
• Acknowledgement of country and communication.
• Identity and urbanisation.
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
• Shared history, elders and kinship including consideration of past experiences impacting life today. Shared perspective.
• Health equality and closing the gap.
• Prominent people and cultural events.
• Native Title, cultural heritage and culturally significant places including consideration of land tenure, determined lands and key groups and people associated with each.

EOIS are due to trchr@trc.qld.gov.au by Tuesday 26 August 2025 and must include:

1. course content with consideration of the course content and tailored to reflect local context
2. a cost breakdown including facilitator fees, materials and additional charges
3. information about the trainer/s including relevant cultural knowledge, qualifications and experience
4. terms and conditions including cancellation policy.
