The City of Belmont invites expressions of interest from qualified and experienced professionals to serve as the Independent Presiding Member and Independent Deputy Presiding Member of the City’s Audit, Risk & Improvement Committee (ARIC).
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the strategic oversight and governance of the City, ensuring transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in its operations.
About the Committee
The Audit, Risk & Improvement Committee plays a pivotal role in supporting Council's commitment to sound financial management and effective risk oversight. The Committee provides independent assurance and advice on:
- The integrity of financial reporting
- The application of accounting policies
- Assessment of risk management and internal controls
- Compliance with the Local Government Act 1995 (WA) and associated regulations
Members of the Committee are expected to exercise due care and diligence, bringing their expertise to guide the City in maintaining high standards of governance and performance.
Who Should Apply?
To be considered for either of the Independent positions, you must be able to demonstrate:
- Knowledge and experience in statutory financial reporting, risk management and audit principles (internal and external)
- Strong communication skills
- Relevant skills and experience in providing independent expert advice
Interested persons are to have no operational responsibilities with or provision of paid services to the City of Belmont (either directly or indirectly). Exposure to local government financial management whilst not essential will be highly regarded.

The appointment will be made by Council and will be for a two year term commencing 21 October 2025. Reimbursement of time, travel and any other incidentals will be provided by the City of Belmont, as prescribed by the relevant Salaries and Allowances Tribunal determination.
