Project Objectives

The overall project objective is to modernise the airport, meet regulatory standards, and create a resilient infrastructure that will drive long term economic prosperity for the Furneaux Islands Group.

Specific project objectives for the proposed works are as follows:

• To ensure compliance with the Strategic Plan,

• To comply with current CASA safety requirements,

• Provide all weather access to Flinders Island,

• Facilitate routine and emergency night operations,

• Deliver a significant upgrade to electrical and lighting systems,

• Improve the safety of aircraft, operators and passengers using flinders Island airstrips,

• Facilitate improved delivery of essential goods and services such as food supplies, health care, community mail and passenger air services, and

• Improve the amenity of the Flinders Island Municipality by providing assets exhibiting good workmanship and appropriate life expectancy,

• To deliver the project in compliance with legislated Health and Safety requirements, and

• To deliver the project efficiently, professionally and cost effectively, within the agreed timeframe.

Specific Works

Specific works to be delivered through this project include, but are not limited to:

• Construction of a new Airport Operations Building (Does not form part of this RFP),

• Design of new airport runway lighting systems,

• Purchase and installation of new runway lighting systems,

• Purchase and installation of new Taxiway lighting,

• Purchase and installation of new Runway Threshold Identification lighting (RTIL),

• Provision of a new Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) system,

• Purchase and installation of new Obstacle lighting, and

• Supply of a new emergency generator and associated infrastructure.
