Tender Description

Department of Education - Newdegate Primary School - Pool Resurfacing Works

SCOPE OF WORK

Repaint the 25m pool and Toddler's pool after removing all existing paint surfaces back to concrete sub-structure. Pressure test all in-pool piping in pool structures, including floor and wall FW nozzles, and rebuild construction joint.

1. Provide all means to dewater the site if rising ground water.

2. Carefully dismantle all handrails and reinstall them upon completion of the surface renovation.

3. Replace any corroded backstroke grab rails (pair under each starting platform) with new stainless steel, matching the installation and alignment of the remaining grab rails.

4. Remove all existing render and strip back to bare concrete. The lane markings tiles on the floor and target tiles on the wall remain. If the existing render at the target lanes or marking lanes locations is unsound and the marking or target tiles need to be replaced, the new tiles must have colours that contrast with the pool surface. All dimensions and placements as per Architectural Drawings (Appendix A) and must comply with the Code of Practice and Royal Life Saving guidelines. If unsure, seek advice from an Aquatic Engineer.

5. Pressure water blast (10,000 psi) the entire pool shell, or cup grind to coarse sandpaper surface to give a very clean surface.

6. Repair any cracks in the existing structural surface.

7. Repair any defective surfaces such as:

  • Damaged coping tiles (grab tiles)
  • Chipped and cracked tiles
  • Cracking in the concrete pool shell
  • Sealants

8. Remove the tiles above the pool channel gutter to extract the stainless steel intact. Cover the channel gutter during renovation work to prevent debris and dust from blocking pool drainage.

9. Clean the inside of gutters and use a high-pressure 10,000 psi waterblaster to give the surface a coarse sandpaper finish. Provide two coats of Metz 9HB 10% solids over a coat of Metz Epoxy Primer according to Metz explicit instructions or similar products equivalent in function, quality, etc to the approval of the Superintendent’s Representative

10. In the 25m pool, apply two patches of render 2m x 2m on the main floor and one in the diving bowl. Apply 2m x 1m render patches on each diving bowl sloping floor. Additionally, two (2m x 1m) render patches on each end pool wall. (Total 15 patches)

In the Toddler Pool, apply two patches of render 2m x 2m on the floor. Undertake pull off tests of proposed tile system from concrete pool structure after all render and tiles removed, to provide adhesion results satisfactory to main pool floors and walls. Allow total of 17 tests. Provide a copy of all photos and drawings showing test locations together with warranty to client, project manager and Aquatic Engineer. If the pull-off test is satisfactory, proceed with applying render to the entire floor and walls of both pools. If the test is not satisfactory, remove the existing render and reinstate it, repeating the process until acceptable pull-off test results are achieved.

11. Place new recessed Combiflex SG, Radmat or a similar product equivalent in function, quality, etc to the approval of the Superintendent’s Representative, as external surface water stops along the contraction joint within pool.

12. Paint entire pool floor and walls up to water line tiles.

13. Fully tile pool steps. Ensure no sharp edges and provide rounded edges on corners. Pool tile supplier is to test and approve in writing, and with photo evidence, the tiler’s method of applying tiles using back buttering and Tarver system to give 100% glue cover. Both tiler and tile supplier to warrant for 10 years tile system. They are both to approve abraded pool surface in writing.

A copy of QA to be supplied to tile supplier and client, to include photos together with written warranty.

14. Check earthing of all metal pool components and structures and have signed off and certified by registered electrician.

15. Pressure wash out all FW lines to ensure clean.

16. Stainless steel handrails all to be earthed and certified.

17. Install new FW risers and new nozzles.
