Meridian owns and operates many battery backed up AC and DC systems. These systems support nationally critical infrastructure at power stations and ancillary structures throughout New Zealand.

Primarily these systems support Meridians GCS (generation control system: facilitating centralised control of generation assets), PLC (programmable logic controllers: the hardware controlling generating plant) and protection equipment (electrical protection used to safely shutdown plant during faults or emergencies).

They also support BAU (business as usual) functions such as corporate networking and data hosting.

The technical scope of design details requirements for three types, and nominal quantities of systems Meridian is wanting to replace.

This work is expected to take place over several years due to business and funding constraints on projects. Therefore, Meridian will be looking to standardise suppliers of systems to support this work over a contract period to be agreed with the successful respondent(s).

Suppliers may submit proposals for any or all of the system types that follow in this document. Meridian may choose multiple suppliers based on the suitability of responses to manage type redundancy across systems.

Meridian will evaluate responses based on the three types of battery systems identified and costing based ton he 27 systems known needing replacement.
