Tender Description
The City of Mitcham (the Council) invites tenders from Tenderers for the construction of Stage 1 works at the former bowling greens and Air Force Association precinct at Hawthorn (the Works). The Council will enter into a Contract for Works with the successful Tenderer.
Scope:
The Activating Hawthorn’s Hidden Gem Master Plan and Detailed Design documentation prepared by Jensen Plus has been endorsed by council following extensive community and stakeholder engagement. The Master Plan implementation is in two (2) stages.
Stage 1 (this tender) focuses on the northern half of the site and excludes the demolition of the main building (currently used by the Air Force Association (AFA)). It includes the following works:
- A planting buffer along the northern and part of the eastern boundaries
- A large lawn area.
- Tree plantings to provide shade to the lawn area.
- A shelter and picnic setting to the west of the site.
- A large shelter, two picnic settings and a BBQ to the east of the site.
- A shared use path along the edge of the site and Brown Hill Creek, connecting to the existing paved path from the Mitcham Memorial Library.
- Demolition of the lean-to building, next to the pre-school (not used by any groups).
- Paved entrance between the pre-school and main building (currently used by the AFA).
- Kaurna artworks including:
- Laser cut screen panels to the two shelters featuring a dragon fly and platypus artworks.
- Etchings in a curved concrete wall, which also provides seating Stage 2 is a future stage which includes a pedestrian plaza, garden beds, play elements, demolition of the main AFA building and more (not in the scope of this tender).
The aim of this project is to revitalize the disused bowling greens and open up the site for the community to access a public green space area.
