The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) seeks the services of a suitably qualified consultant to develop the Western Australian Advanced Biofuel Strategy (Strategy). This will provide a rigorous strategic and economic analysis of the pathways needed to attract advanced biofuel projects to Western Australia (WA).
This Strategy will identify the approaches needed to capitalise on WA’s competitive advantages and create a biofuels industry that brings economic, environmental and community benefits to the regions in the short, medium and long-term. Investment opportunities and challenges within the local, national and international context will be examined, along with the role of government policy and financial levers, and industry.
A key element of the Strategy is to recommend specific actions that can be implemented in the short to medium term. These will incentivise the development of regional bio-refineries and logistics hubs, pilot projects for innovative technologies, and public-private partnerships and investment, delivering maximum benefit to the state. The actions must also address the barriers for customers, across all sectors (mining, agriculture, transport, utilities, construction and manufacturing) with the aim of making advanced biofuels competitive with conventional fuels.
Collaboration with the successful respondent to (Request No. DPIRD2025147) Economic analysis of Western Australia’s biomass feedstocks, supply chains and conversion pathways will help finalise the Strategy’s recommendations.
