Tender Description
The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) is seeking a suitably experienced and skilled supplier to build, deliver and maintain an interactive mapping tool, called the WA Climate Projections Viewer. The Viewer will make new climate change projections for Western Australia accessible to non-technical users. This platform will offer detailed insights into how our climate is expected to change through to 2100 across a range of critical climate variables—such as rainfall, temperature, humidity, and wind speed—across the state.??
New climate change projections for Western Australia are being delivered as part of the Climate Science Initiative (CSI) led by the DWER in partnership with the New South Wales and Australian Regional Climate Program (NARCliM), Murdoch University and the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre. The Initiative is producing the most comprehensive Western Australian climate change projections to date, extending to the year 2100. More information about the projections and DWER’s role can be found at the DWER webpage (Climate Science Initiative).
The WA Climate Projections Viewer is vital for a wide range of stakeholders, including state government agencies and trading entities, local governments, WA industries, researchers, and the broader community. These groups rely on accurate, up-to-date climate data to assess risks and inform strategies across sectors such as building, energy, health, agriculture, land use, and disaster risk reduction. The WA Climate Projections Viewer will serve as an authoritative source of information, providing easy access to climate data, projections, interactive maps, dashboards, and downloadable datasets. This tool will empower users to confidently make data-driven decisions, driving effective climate adaptation and mitigation strategies across the state.
By presenting the data in an intuitive and user-friendly format, the platform will enhance the ability of communities and decision-makers to make informed choices. This, in turn, will improve adaptation strategies and outcomes, helping to address the impacts of climate change more effectively and efficiently. The development of the WA Climate Projections Viewer is a commitment in the Western Australia Climate Adaptation Strategy (2023), and there is growing demand for future climate projections from State Government agencies, Government Trading Enterprises, industry and the community
