IRC Goonyella Road Intersection Upgrade

Project description:

The Goonyella Road Intersection Upgrade project, commissioned by the Isaac Regional Council (Council) and prepared by AECOM Australia Pty Ltd, aims to enhance the infrastructure along Goonyella Road in Moranbah, Queensland. The primary objective is to construct a new intersection and extend the existing Goonyella Service Road to support a proposed development.

Early works to relocate existing Telstra, Ergon and CSE assets that will be completed prior to site mobilisation has been completed by Council.

The construction scope includes widening the existing Goonyella Road to achieve the required geometry and constructing approximately 170 meters of the Goonyella Service Road extension. The project also involves modifying and constructing new intersections and accesses along Goonyella Road, specifically between Curtin Street and Industrial Avenue. The construction activities will ensure that the new intersection and road extension meet the necessary standards for heavy vehicle traffic, including multi-combination vehicles up to Type 2 road trains.

Council has identified safety concerns with the current Goonyella Road fill point. To improve safety, the fill point will be relocated to the Council depot side of Goonyella Road. The Contractor will handle all necessary works for this relocation, including constructing a new plinth, hardstand and asphalt surfacing for vehicles to access the fill point from Goonyella Road.

The process involves verifying dimensions, constructing pavement and concrete hardstand, installing water infrastructure, and relocating the fill point apparatus. The existing plinth will be removed, and the watermain capped. The Contractor must submit a detailed Works Procedure four weeks before starting the work or at the pre-start meeting. This section of the works must be completed first, prior to any intersection works, to ensure the fill point remains operational and accessible throughout construction.
