Tender Description

Construct a new archive room and internal works at Marion Heritage Research Centre (“MHRC”). Including but not limited to new archive storage room, demolition works, and requirements in accordance with Annexure 1.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Council is undertaking a construction and renewable program to upgrade the heritage facility, with works including constructing a new archive room and internal remediation works.

The project reflects a commitment to improving community infrastructure and supporting the diverse needs of Marion’s residents and the users of the building.

Due to it originally being a residential dwelling, there are limitations on its capacity to properly fulfil its function to appropriately protect and preserve the City of Marion’s history. Items are currently being stored in one of the rooms on compactus shelving, but do not meet standards for air and moisture/humidity control or a proper fire system to protect the items in case of fire. Additionally, the current research hub and staff/volunteer office are cramped, with limited space for community members. It’s particularly challenging for those who have mobility issues or rely on mobility aids (wheelchairs, mobility scooters and walking aids), and the space is restrictive in the number of people who can be present at one time.

Project Outcomes

The key features of the works include:

  • Archive Storage Room: The new archive storage room will provide a safe and secure storage area.
  • Demolition of pergola, rainwater tank and trees and shrubs.
  • Internal remediation works include (but are not limited to) painting, floor finishing, relocation of compactus, and filling cracks in walls and ceiling.
  • A Risk Assessment for the proposed work and an associated Risk Management Plan (including provision of Job Safety Environmental Analysis/Safe Work Method Statements or WHS Management Plan as appropriate – refer Appendix 3)
  • A Traffic and Pedestrian Management Plan.
  • An Environmental Management Plan.

These enhancements are part of a broader effort to modernise the Heritage Centre, making it more accessible and user-friendly for all community members.

The project reflects a commitment to improving community infrastructure and supporting the diverse needs of Marion’s residents and the building's users.
