Tender Description

Hunter Water Corporation (Hunter Water) has entered into a contract with John Holland to design and construct a 30 ML/d seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant. The plant will include an ocean intake structure, intake pipeline, onshore pumping station, pre-treatment and post-treatment processes, residuals handling, discharge pipework and connections to the existing potable water distribution network. The overall project also includes electrical works, controls and instrumentation, civil works, structural works and associated infrastructure such as tanks and chemical systems.

The project is located in Belmont, NSW, approximately 30 minutes south of Newcastle. The desalination plant will be constructed on land already owned by Hunter Water, which is the site of an existing Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW).

The project scope consists of the following general elements:

-Design of the desalination plant and associated works (HV and network modifications)

-Site mobilisation/establishment

-Civil works to bring the site to the design level

-Construction of inground services

-Construction of intake pipeline, including the offshore seawater intake and onshore seawater pump station

-Building and structural works

-Mechanical and electrical installation

-Commissioning of all systems

-Ausgrid HV lead in works

-Modifications to the Hunter Water network at the Belmont and Cardiff reservoirs

-Completion of the Process Guarantee Period, a two year operational period.

Procurement packages will be released to the market over the next 2 year period.

Construction is planned in five phases: Site Establishment, Earthworks, Marine & Tunnelling, Main Plant Construction, and Commissioning and Process Proving.
The focus of the early works and earthworks phases are to enable access to the critical path works at the intake shaft which allow the tunnelling to commence.
