Council’s Towards Zero Waste Strategy 2022-2031 (TZWS) guides sustainable waste and resource management in the city. The TZWS contains strategies for creating opportunities to improve waste avoidance and resource recovery. Specific objectives include:

•  Embedding a circular economy by focusing on avoid, reuse, recycle, then landfill;
•  Complying with legislation, including a focus on environmental management;
•  Maintain ongoing value for money;
•  Ensuring flexibility to respond to emerging opportunities;
•  Having a high level of community engagement, and
•  Ensuring local landfill capacity beyond 2037.
