Scope of Works – Installation of Reticulation System for Synthetic Sand-Filled Bowling Greens
3.2.1. Project Overview
This Scope of Works outlines the required tasks and responsibilities involved in the design, supply, and installation of a fully operational reticulation (irrigation) system for two synthetic sand-filled bowling greens. The system will be utilised initially to irrigate the front green, with all underground provisions for the back green to be included in design and installation to future proof the second green, for turf replacement in the future. The system is intended to provide dust control and surface cooling during play, maintaining optimal conditions for the synthetic surface.
3.2.2. Site Description
• Location: Merredin Regional Community and Leisure Centre, Bates Street, Merredin, WA 6415.
• Surface: Synthetic grass, sand-filled bowling greens
• Dimensions: 37m x 37m each
3.2.3 Objectives
• To supply and install an efficient and uniform water distribution system
• To ensure minimal disruption to the synthetic surface
• To ensure long-term durability, easy operation, and low maintenance
3.2.4 Scope of Works
3.2.4.1 Design
• Develop a reticulation layout plan tailored to the dimensions and characteristics of the synthetic green
• Ensure optimal sprinkler head placement for uniform coverage without overspray onto surrounding areas
• Design must consider wind drift, water pressure, zoning, and drainage
3.2.4.2 Supply of Materials
• PVC piping and fittings (suitable for pressure and durability requirements)
• Pop-up sprinkler heads (preferably low trajectory, anti-drip)
• Solenoid valves with waterproof enclosures
• Automated controller/timer (with manual override capability)
• Backflow prevention device (as per local regulations)
• Electrical cabling and connections (where applicable)
3.2.4.3 Installation
• Trenching and pipe laying with minimal disruption to synthetic surface
• Installation of sprinkler heads flush with playing surface
• Connection of solenoid valves and controller system
• Integration and connection with potable water supply
• Installation of a backflow prevention device as per plumbing code
• Installation of tank and pump system suitable for 3 -4 minutes water supply to both greens prior to play. Tank will need to be 14,000l.
• Commissioning of the full system
3.2.4.4 Testing and Commissioning
• Pressure and leak testing of the system
• Performance testing for even distribution
