As part of the Government’s plans to reduce crime, the Department of Corrections (the Department) is seeking suitable organisations to deliver Youth Diversion Programs (YDP) across the Northern Territory.
Youth diversion refers to alternative responses to alleged offending by young people that avoid court proceedings and instead provide early intervention, community-based support, and address issues impacting their decision-making and build their capacity to make better decisions in the future.
The YDP aims to provide a formal diversion pathway for young people who are alleged to have committed an offence and are eligible for youth diversion under Sections 39 and 64 of the Youth Justice Act 2005 (NT) (the Act). Where capacity exists, the YDP will also support young people who are at risk of reoffending or entering the formal youth justice system.
Respondents are to provide their proposed youth diversion program ensuring alignment with the objectives, outcomes and requirements provided below. Proposed youth diversion programs are to be accompanied with an outline of the provider’s experience, capacity and/or expertise.
Respondents may express interest in delivering the program in one or multiple locations. Respondents may partner with other service providers to achieve program deliverables.
These grant funding guidelines apply to applications for programs to be run from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2028 with the option of two 12-month extensions. These guidelines apply to mandatory activities that are expected to run all year round.
