Comprehensive Guidance for Raised Intersections
Tender ID: 583162
Tender Details
Tender Description
The purpose of this project is to support achievement of road safety vision and targets by sharing evidence on recent best practice implementation of raised intersections in higher speed environments (over 50 km/h), thereby increasing effective application of this intervention.
Objective:
The objectives of this project are to:
• Gather evidence on the application of raised intersections, especially in higher speed environments (over 50 km/h).
• Increase the capacity and capability of road safety practitioners in the implementation of raised intersections through the development of best practice guidance that is practical and actionable.
Scope:
The project will be undertaken in two stages. The first phase will include a desktop assessment of specific issues relating to raised intersections, each of which has been identified as a gap in knowledge. The second phase will use these learnings to produce draft text to update relevant Austroads guides.
The desk top study will involve gathering information on the use of raised intersections. This will include identification of the road safety benefits, but also implementation considerations and issues. The focus is on higher speed (over 50 km/h) signalised intersections, but relevant information to application for non-signalised intersections, midblocks and for lower speed environments will also be captured. Information will be collected via literature review (local and international) as well as consultation with stakeholders. Detail will be provided to help address implementation barriers.
