Tender Description

University of Canterbury is seeking to purchase an Extended X-ray Absorption Fine-Structure Spectrometer.

Given that knowledge of the short-range structure is essential to correlate a material structure to applications in catalysis, drug delivery, optics and information storage, UC is planning to invest in an EXAFS Spectrometer.

This would represent the first instrument of this type in New Zealand, meaning not only an enhanced research capability, but also an increase in the number, and quality of publications because of external collaborations.

Acquiring the EXAFS system is expected to enhance staff and student research capabilities, foster cross-disciplinary collaboration, and facilitate equipment sharing across multiple departments, including Biological Sciences and Chemical & Process Engineering.

- Improve the national and international research profile, reputation and ranking of the University.

- The EXAFS would provide a strategic differentiator in UC’s capabilities for materials science, enabling our academic community to innovate in new ways across a wide range of applications.

- Increase and diversify funding sources for the University’s research portfolio including for research institutes, centres and clusters.

- The EXAFS increases UC’s ability to perform leading-edge research into materials science, attracting grants and partnerships from industry and government agencies.

- Provide, access and share “state of the art” research, equipment, facilities and e‐infrastructure.
