Project goals
- All fire-damaged infrastructure is removed, and new infrastructure is installed as per the design specifications
- Upgraded tracks are completed along with proper drainage and vegetation management
- All work complies with environmental regulations and minimizes impact on the natural surroundings
- Removed vegetation is repurposed effectively, and areas are restored to a state conducive to natural regeneration
- Project meets or exceeds expectations of key stakeholders and park users
Scope
The proposed post-fire remediation of the Castle walking track would include removal of fire damaged infrastructure in a remote location of Morton national Park.
The scope of the project includes:
- remediation of approximately 46.6 km of the investigated tracks, with a 2 m buffer either side of the track
- Working in rugged, steep, exposed and remote conditions with limited to NIL communications such as phone/radio service
- Remote camping on site during construction
- Coordinating helicopter operations, including sling loading materials and transporting personnel to and from the site
- Installation of new replacement infrastructure, such as new raised boardwalks and hardwood sleeper steps
- Drainage works, such as the inclusion of water bars and step over drains and roll where required
- Trackside vegetation trimming where required
- Recuring online Microsoft teams meetings to provide NPWS staff with progress updates
