GS LLS are seeking an experienced operator to transport habitat logs to predetermined locations within Defence Establishment Orchard Hills. Logs are reclaimed trees felled for nearby development.

Project goals

GSLLS has been engaged by Department of Defence to deliver environmental restoration works under the Defence Establishment Orchard Hills Offset Area Plan. Works include the installation of “habitat logs” to provide habitat and improve soil conditions throughout the site. Logs are reclaimed trees felled for nearby development.

Through the installation of habitat logs, the project aims to improve habitat and soil conditions throughout the site resulting in the increase of biodiversity and resilience.

Scope

GS LLS are seeking an experienced operator to transport habitat logs to predetermined locations within Defence Establishment Orchard Hills. The logs will be provided in an unsorted state at the Southern and Northern hardstand areas.

The contractor will need to sort the material and place it ready for transportation. GS LLS will provide a marked area of hardstand available for sorting logs.

The habitat logs vary significantly in size and length, ranging from:

• 1m-6m in length
• 200kg to 2 tonnes in weight

The contractor will transport logs up to a maximum of 4 km (one way) from the stockpile(s) depending on individual jobs. Please refer to the two maps following for proposed installation sites. Logs will be transported within each work site and hardstand (Southern/Northern) and will not require transport between these two sites.

Please note that vehicle accessibility is limited throughout the site, and detachment of logs will need to be undertaken without a vehicle
