The City of Fremantle is seeking Expressions of Interest from Western Australian based artists working within any arts practice, with proven mural painting experience, to be part of this exciting new project.

Our Mark

Our Voice | Our Mark is a young people-led, artist in residence school program and public art mural project, in collaboration with artists, three high schools, and the City of Fremantle. Supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DGLSC), this project aims to support collaborators in a unique opportunity to connect and gain a better understanding of working on a project together in the public realm.

This project involves a mentorship residency program within three local Walyalup Fremantle schools (years 10 – 12), where three artists, three student groups and their educators will co-design and create a site-specific mural.

During a mass painting week, the murals will then be painted in the Walyalup Fremantle city centre by the students and artists, supported by the City of Fremantle. 

Why are we doing this?

The opportunity to bring an artist and public project into a school context strives to explore the value of both student and educators’ core capabilities in action, connecting students with artists and their communities to make a positive difference whilst developing key skills in collaboration, designing and creating new work and active citizenship.

The Artist will also be contributing to cross-discipline curriculum learning throughout this project, giving students a ‘real-life’ context for working in this way. Learning and sharing in this way deepens relationships between the schools, educators, students, and artists, given the length and collaborative nature of this project.
