Project goals
Sydney Trains is requesting the procurement of a total of six (6) Main Traction engines and eleven (11) Auxiliary engines to replace the existing outdated diesel systems in its overhead wiring vehicles.
Scope
The Sydney Trains overhead wiring fleet, primarily used for infrastructure maintenance and repair, relies on diesel engine systems that have been in operation for several decades. However, as these diesel engines lack modern emissions-reduction technology, they pose significant operational challenges, particularly when used in confined environments like City tunnels. The absence of effective emissions control results in high exposure to diesel particulates and gases for Rail workers working nearby, raising Work Health and Safety concerns to unacceptable levels.
In order to address these challenges, Sydney Trains is requesting the procurement of a total of six (6) Main Traction engines and eleven (11) Auxiliary engines from a competent supplier who will design, supply & install, integrate, test, and commission all the required engines, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards of all engines.
The aim is to ensure compliance with modern emissions standards and enhance safety for rail workers in confined spaces.
