Tender Description

The City of Canning owns and operates the 18 hole Whaleback Golf Course (Whaleback), located on Whaleback Avenue in the suburb of Parkwood. The golf course complex sits on 51.5 hectares of Crown and Freehold land, and includes a 42-bay, two-level driving range, a pro shop, and a cafe.

Whaleback Golf Course attracts an average of 85,000 rounds of golf per annum, making it a popular destination for both casual golfers and enthusiasts. The driving range, which features 36 out of 42 bays equipped with Toptracer Range technology, sees approximately 100,000 customers using the facility each year, with over 7,000,000 balls hit on the range annually. During the busiest periods, the range can see over 40,000 balls hit in a single day.

However, a risk assessment conducted in 2022 by Local Government Insurance Services identified that the number of balls leaving the range perimeter, estimated to be 10% or 700,000 per annum, presented a risk that the City should mitigate. One of the recommended strategies to address this issue is the installation of a perimeter netting appropriate for a two-level driving range.

The City of Canning is now seeking a suitably qualified and reputable company to complete the required works on a design and construct basis. The successful contractor must demonstrate the necessary experience, expertise, and capacity to fulfill the City's requirements and ensure the safety of all users of the Whaleback Golf Course complex.
