Tender Description

ABOUT THE COUNCIL:

Stretching from Palm Beach to Manly, the Northern Beaches boasts more than half of all the beaches in Sydney and a population of more than 266,000. The Council is committed to maintaining a high level of customer service to the local community.

Northern Beaches Council is working closely with the community to build strategies that enhance our quality of life, promote sustainable development, and protect our environment.

SERVICE REQUIRED:

Northern Beaches Council invites Expression of Interest EOI for the provision of viable solutions and methodologies to recover resources from the materials currently presented at the kerbside bulky goods collections service. We are aiming and interested to find out:

  • collection models.
  • processing options to maximise recovery.
  • end to end whole supply chain options.
  • social, economic, and environmental benefits to support a local Circular Economy.

Presently, the Council transports its compacted bulky items to Kimbriki. Kimbriki Environmental Enterprises Pty Ltd KEE is a separate company governed by a board of directors, overseeing operations on land leased from the Northern Beaches Council. The majority shareholder of KEE is the Northern Beaches Council, owning 96%, while Mosman Council holds the remaining 4%. Although KEE functions independently, it upholds a strong mutual collaboration with its shareholder Councils. The facility encompasses both a dry landfill and recycling operations.

To understand the composition of the Council's bulky goods waste Kimbriki conducted an audit at the of 2023. As a result of the audit, Council is now seeking innovative solutions to recover more resources and materials from the following mixed bulky goods piles:

  • Textiles-Clothes
  • Carpet- mat, rug
  • Whitegoods - degassed
  • Cardboard
  • Wood/timber - untreated and engineered
  • Mattresses
  • Sofa foam
  • Electronic waste
  • Household items containing metals
