Tender Description

Singleton Council is seeking expressions of interest from artists who reside in the Singleton local government area (LGA), the Upper Hunter or greater Hunter Region, or demonstrate a connection to the Singleton area, for the commission of a significant outdoor sculpture.

The project will be funded through a NSW Government Resources for Regions grant.

Artists will be shortlisted from initial expressions of interest, with a small number of applicants then commissioned to submit proposals responding to a more detailed design brief. The final successful applicant will be appointed by a selection panel.

The sculpture is to be situated in Council-owned parkland, where ongoing public engagement is expected. It is anticipated that the sculpture will be upright, freestanding, and produced with an awareness of the scale of structures nearby, sightlines from buildings and cultural context of the location.

The successful sculpture will conceptually engage with aspects of the natural environment.

Approximately 70% of the Hunter Valley is vegetated by bushland, with a significant percentage contained in its National Parks and State Forests. This native bushland provides habitat for a wide variety of flora and fauna which has shaped and been shaped by climate, the landscape, and the various peoples who have moved across, and settled in this region.

The sculpture’s design should be celebratory in nature while exploring some aspect of these native habitats as sites of ecological significance.

Please submit applications for initial shortlisting via the online link on Singleton Arts and Cultural Centre’s website by 5pm on Friday 12 April 2024: www.singletonartsandculturalcentre.com.au/whats-on/eoi-singleton-public-art-sculpture-commission
