Tender Description
The Department is responsible for ensuring that people who wish to obtain a motorcycle license are trained in the appropriate use of motorcycles including the development of riding skills. This is accomplished by completing (including passing a skills test), an accredited training program provided by the Rider Safe Program (the Program).
The Program titled ‘Rider Safe’ teaches the basic and advanced motorcycle skills necessary to ride safely on a road in general traffic conditions.
Currently Rider Safe has a fleet of 106 motorcycles that are required to cater for the wide range of student training needs i.e. a wide range of users with varying physical attributes and different requirements depending on course participants reasons for wanting to ride a motorcycle (e.g., commuting, touring or off-road riding).
Based on that need, it is essential that a variety of motorcycles are purchased and that the acquisition process is flexible to allow for the purchase of a range of motorcycles within each category.
Historically the Department replaces approximately 1/3 of the fleet each financial year.
This includes but is not necessarily limited to the replacement of motorcycles of the following types:
- Road
- Trail
- Scooters
It should be noted that all motorcycles used in the Program must meet the Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme (LAMS).
