Sheedy Road is located within the urban growth area of the Virginia township where former agricultural and rural land has been and is being developed into urban residential areas. Whilst the western end of Sheedy Road, from O’Loughlin Road to 80m west of Juniper Boulevard, has been upgraded to urban standard (with kerb and water table on both sides and a footpath on the southern side) in conjunction with the development on the southern side of Sheedy Road, the eastern end of Sheedy Road, from Old Port Wakefield Road to O’Loughlin Road, has not been upgraded and retains its original rural form.
The Project aims to deliver an urban standard form similar to the western end of Sheedy Road for the eastern end so that the road will have a consistent form that meets the road form and character for the future residential environment.
The Project will include the following works:
- Road pavement reconstruction and resurfacing of Sheedy Road between Old Port Wakefield Road and O’Loughlin Street,
- Construction of new kerb and water table for Sheedy Road between Old Port Wakefield Road and O’Loughlin Street,
- Construction of new footpaths for Sheedy Road between Old Port Wakefield Road and O’Loughlin Street. On the northern side from Sophia to OPW only with allowance made for future construction for the full length of Sheedy Road. Noting that the northern section between OPW and the car park access point is sacrificial pending DIT’s delivery of the Sheedy / OPW Penfield intersection upgrade.
- Construction of new stormwater and street lighting for Sheedy Road between Old Port Wakefield Road and O’Loughlin Street.
