Tender Description

Domestic security screening currently operates from approximately 0400 to 2200 daily using 2 domestic screening lanes located next to check-in.

The current Domestic screening lanes consist of newly upgraded security screening equipment:

  • 2 x Rapiscan 920CT x-rays, with automatic tray return system,
  • 2 x Rapiscan QPS 201 Body scanners,
  • 1 x CEIA O2PN20 walk through metal detector.

A separate International Powders Liquids, Aerosol and Gels (PLAG's) screening lane within the Domestic Sterile Area operates during international operations only.

The PLAG's screening lane consists of:

  • 1 x Rapiscan 920CT x-rays, with automatic tray return system,
  • 1 x Rapiscan QPS 201 Body scanner,

The international lane is not currently in use but may be activated as required by international operations.

Current Security operations include:

  • Domestic passenger screening,
  • Checked baggage screening,
  • Oversize baggage management,
  • Response to security / emergency incidents,
  • Security inspections including:
  • White level inspections
  • ASIC and VIC Inspections (including retail stores)
  • Precinct Patrols
  • Gate Supervision
  • Tools of trade checks
  • Out of hours (on call) response to re-open passenger screening operations;
  • Ad-Hoc front of terminal operations services including:
  • Customer service assistance for arriving and departing passengers;
  • Queue management
  • Ad-Hoc ASIC supervision duties.
  • BHS bag clearance and basic fault resolution
  • CT bag jam and clearance
  • Car park management
  • Freight and Cargo Operations

The Airport is a security-controlled airport under the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004, and the Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005. Under this legislation, NAPL is required to have an approved Transport Security Program (TSP), which outlines the security operations at Newcastle Airport.

The Contractor will be required to meet the requirements of the NAPL TSP, whilst conducting operations at NAPL. As a security-controlled document, access to the NAPL TSP will be available to the successful Contractor once appointed the contract.
